Novel

Ready, Okay!

My first book. Lemony Snicket says, "Do not turn your back on this novel. It is garishly funny, fierce as hell, and surprisingly, suddenly, full of grace." You tell 'em, Lemony.

Alles klar?

The German translation of Ready, Okay! Yeah, I don't know what's going on with that shirt either. I also got paid for a Hungarian translation but I don't know whether that ever happened.

Books I have contributed to

various Princeton Review books

I have several degrees in English and I actually use them in my job. Crazy, huh? I have written significant chunks of the following books:

  • Verbal Manual for the SAT, v7.0, 7.1
  • Manual for the New SAT, v1.0, 1.1
  • 11 Practice Tests for the New SAT, 2006, 2007
  • Refresher Manual for the New SAT, 7.0
  • Cracking the PSAT/NMSQT, 2007
  • PSAT Weekend Workout
I am currently working on the new GRE book. So if you're going to be taking the PSAT, SAT or GRE, why not take a TPR course? After all, if you like my fiction, you'll love my sentence completion homework sections.
Gaming Hacks edited by Simon Carless

I wrote half of an interactive fiction tutorial for this O'Reilly & Associates book. Andrew Plotkin wrote the other half. If you've ever wondered what a game by Zarf and me would look like...

Perspectives on Argument edited by Nancy V. Wood

This textbook reprinted my essay on Barney and intergenerational politics (which is also available on my Prose page).

Books that discuss my work

Twisty Little Passages by Nick Montfort

This book has a short chapter on my interactive fiction. I have also reviewed it, sort of.

The Inform Designer's Manual, 4th ed. by Graham Nelson

This guide to the interactive fiction language Inform discusses several of my programs. It also says I have "a rare gift for the amoral."

Millennials Rising by Neil Howe and William Strauss

Howe and Strauss, on whom I did my undergraduate honors thesis, quote me a couple of times, even though I have since disavowed their generational model.
