Haroun and the Sea of Stories
Salman Rushdie, 1990
Gave this one three chapters. It seems to be basically an Indian version of
The Phantom Tollbooth, and ergo way too precious and whimsical for me.
I'd probably say the same thing about The Phantom Tollbooth if I were
to read it for the first time as an adult. I used to think that I was
interested in children's books, since I often dominated the conversation when
the subject came up, but no — what I'm actually interested in are the
books I read as a child, or at least the authors.
Now that I'm a grownup I want to read grownup books. (Though I guess recently
it's been more like the first ten pages of grownup books, but whatever.)
